Welcome to the War of 1812 Heritage Trail!

About the War in the Western Theatre Legacy Council

The War in the Western Theatre Legacy Council is a consortium of War of 1812 sites from the states of Michigan and Ohio and the province of Ontario. The primary members of this consortium are the River Raisin Battlefield (Monroe, Michigan), Fort Mackinac (Mackinac Island, Michigan), Fort Malden (Amherstburg, Ontario), Fort St. Joseph (St. Joseph Island, Ontario), Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial (Put-in-Bay, Ohio), and Fort Meigs State Memorial (Perrysburg, Ohio). The purpose of this organization is to link member sites and their partners, geographically and historically to better promote the region's heritage. This is done by sharing resources, knowledge, and through cooperative economic development.

Our Mission Statement:

Through collaboration and partnership, improve member sites’ ability to tell the story of the War of 1812, so that future generations understand the lasting effects of the war in the western theatre. This is done by sharing resources to create personally relevant visitor experiences, cooperative economic development, and local, national and international coordination.
